D&E and XLrator Theatrically Distribute CBGB on 10/11 Starring Alan Rickman

“CBGB” TO HIT MOVIE THEATERS NATIONWIDE
STARTING OCTOBER 11th

NY Special Screening Kicks Off the CBGB Music Festival

LOS ANGELES, CA (October 9, 2023) – XLrator Media, in conjunction with D&E Entertainment, announced the nationwide theatrical release of CBGB, based on the true story of the legendary New York City club founded by Hilly Kristal (portrayed by Alan Rickman), opening October 11, 2023 in multiple cities, including New York and Los Angeles, and expanding to 140 screens in over 100 markets. The announcement was made today by XLrator Media CEO Barry Gordon. (Watch the trailer and buy tickets at www.CBGBFilm.com)

To kick off the national run, a red carpet screening will be held on October 8, 2023 at NY’s Sunshine Cinema, just blocks from the original location of the famed club, widely considered the birthplace of American punk rock music. The screening will open the CBGB Music Festival, which takes place in New York City from October 9-13, 2013 with over 500 bands performing on 175 stages across the city including Times Square and Brooklyn’s Barkley Center.

“CBGB embodies an exciting and disruptive new distribution model for independent movies. Debuting the film on DIRECTV CINEMA® with massive marketing and promotional support has enabled us to open the film theatrically much wider than typical multi-platform releases and reach a much bigger audience,” said XLrator Media CEO Barry Gordon. “D&E is excited to partner with XLrator on CBGB as we find new ways to innovate traditional release plans, build audiences, and market our releases and events more like rock concerts than feature films,” said Doug Kluthe and Evan Saxon of D&E Entertainment.

Directed by Randall Miller (Bottle Shock), CBGB features an all-star cast, including Malin Akerman (The Numbers Station), Ashley Greene (Twilight franchise), Johnny Galecki (“The Big Bang Theory”), Rupert Grint (Harry Potter franchise), Justin Bartha (The Hangover franchise), Joel David Moore (Avatar), Freddy Rodriguez (“Six Feet

Under”), Donal Logue, Stana Katic (“Castle”), and Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters. With 16 on-camera musical performances, the film features over 60 classic songs by the Talking Heads, The Ramones, Blondie, Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, The Police and The Dead Boys, among others.

CBGB looks at New York’s dynamic punk rock scene through the lens of the ground- breaking Lower East Side club started by eccentric Hilly Kristal in 1973 originally as a home for “country, bluegrass and blues” (thus the club’s name). When it proved impossible to book Conway Twitty on the Bowery, Hilly opened his doors to local talent making CBGB a forum for American punk and New Wave bands like the Talking Heads, Patti Smith, The Ramones, Blondie, The Dead Boys, The Runaways, Green Day, Soul Asylum, Tool and thousands more before closing its doors in 2006.

Unclaimed Freight Productions’ Randall Miller and Jody Savin (Bottle Shock, Nobel Son) produced the film along with veteran music publishing executive Brad Rosenberger and Kristal’s daughter Lisa Kristal Burgman. Savin and Miller wrote the screenplay.
